Verb usage

The endings of the verbs change depending on who is doing the action.

Take off the –ar ending of the verb and change it to –o, -as, or –a.

*Yo (I)- change the ending to –o , Ex. Yo pinto, nado, camino

*Tu (You) – change the ending to –as, Ex. Tu pintas, nadas, caminas

*El/Ella (He/She) – change the ending to –a, Ex. El/Ella pinta, nada, camina

***exception—the verb jugar changes it’s spelling by adding an “e” after the “u” –

                 juego, juegas, juega

 

 

 

 

 

Using the verb “Ir – to go

Yo voy – I go

Tu vas – You go

El/Ella va – He/She goes

 

When you are telling where you are going, you use “a la”, “al”,  “a las”, or “a los” (to the)

When you are going to a location that is feminine, you use “a la”.

When you are going to a location that is masculine, you use “al”.

When you are going to a location that is feminine plural, you use “a las”.

When you are going to a location that is masculine plural, you use “a los”.

 

 

For example:   Voy/Vas/Va a la tienda. – I/You/He/She go(es) to the store. (store is                                              

                                                                                feminine, see above)

                                Voy a la escuela.- I go to school.

                                Voy a la casa. – I go home.

                               

                                Voy al parque – I go to the park. (park is masculine, see above)

                                Voy al cine. - I go the movies.

                                Voy al salon de clase. – I go to the classroom.

 

                                Voy a la clase de arte- I go to art class.

                                Voy al gimnasio. – I go to P.E.

                                Voy a las matemáticas.

                                Voy a los Estudios Sociales.
