Internet Safety
Mission:
St.
Margaret Mary SchoolŐs mission is to educate and empower youth to safely and
responsibly take control of their Internet experience.
Goal: Our technology program provides awareness and
knowledge that enables the students to recognize and avoid dangerous,
destructive, or unlawful online behavior and to respond appropriately.
St. Margaret Mary School employs BASCOM Global Internet Service,
Inc., a software development company specializing in school curriculum and
Internet safety. Our school uses
their proxy server by which all objectionable sites are filtered out. In addition, our students are not
allowed to use e-mail software while at school.
Although there may seem to be a sense of safety and security on
the Internet at school, we do use the iSafe curriculum at school to protect
children from abuse on the Internet when online elsewhere.
DANGER SIGNS:
Pornography on your childŐs computer.
Your child receives calls or gifts
from someone you donŐt know.
Your child becomes secretive about
online activities.
Your child turns off the computer when
you enter the room.
SAFETY TIPS:
DonŐt let children have computers in
their rooms.
Talk to children about the danger of
the Internet.
Use blocking software.
Monitor your childŐs e-mail.
Never send personal information over
the Internet.
