THE KEYSIS
MISSION STATEMENT
Keysis aims to strengthen and encourage the youth of our Parish and their
families by empowering them to live as disciples of Jesus Christ. This
goal is accomplished by the Holy Spirit through Prayer and Devotion, Adoration
of the Most Holy Eucharist, Service and the development of a Sacramental
life. Keysis is comprehensive in scope to meet the various needs of the
youth community.
What does all this mean?
Keysis combines the fun and energy of a youth group with the teaching
and formation of Religious Education. Mix in some music, food, drama,
retreats, liturgies, trips, leadership training, socials, and service
projects. Wrap it in prayer and you have a dynamic youth process that
leads young people to deepen their love for Christ and His Church.
Who Can Come?
Keysis is open to all students of high school age; Confirmed or not-Confirmed,
Catholic or non-Catholic, rich or poor, cool or not-so-cool. This is NOT
a club. It is a community where ALL are loved as they are and called to
grow in their faith in Jesus.
What is taught?
Each year, we will focus on one of the four pillars of the Catechism of
the Catholic Church. Special Topics, Teen Issues, and Current Events are
also covered.
Keysis – The Name
The name Keysis is taken from the word catechesis, which means, “to
echo God’s word”. We wanted a name that would be unique and
memorable and at the same time define and focus our efforts in ministry.
Knowledge of the faith is only part of what we wish to impart to our teens.
We also seek to provide encounters with the Living Jesus, the Word of
God made flesh and present in the Mass, in the Scriptures, and in each
member of His Body, the Church. Knowing Jesus gives us a hunger to know
about Him. Knowing more about Him deepens our love for Him. Keysis seeks
to echo and magnify God’s Word, so that it reaches the hearts and
heads of His young people and the world in which they live.
YOUTH MINISTRY IS: the response of the Christian community
to the needs of young people and the sharing of the unique gifts of youth
with the large community (Renewing the Vision).
Three Goals of Catholic Youth Ministry
EMPOWERMENT, PARTICIPATION, GROWTH
To empower our young people to live as disciples of Jesus
Christ in our world today
To draw our young people to responsible participation in
the life, mission, and work of the Catholic faith community
To foster the total personal and spiritual growth of each
young person
“Don’t let anyone make fun of you, just because
you are young. Set an example for other followers by what you say and
do, as well as by your love, faith and purity.” 1Timothy 4:12
