St. Margaret Mary School stands beautifully on the west side of Memorial Park. Since it was built in 1950, the building maintains the character and beauty of its original design. The mosaic of Blessed Mary in the first-floor hallway and woodworkings of Msgr Suneg remain in place throughout many rooms. Additions and upgrades have evolved over the decades to meet the demands of educating students.
The School Principal's office has moved at least a few times in the last 70 years, the science lab has changed locations and equipment, the library expanded, computer labs have seen different locations and hardware changes over the years. There are desktop labs, iPad carts and SmartBoards hang in every classroom. The inter-scholastic athletics compete in the Raynor center while PE class meets in the gymnasium. Innovation within the classrooms and structural changes over the years continue to prepare students for the future.
Over 3,000 men and women have graduated from St. Margaret Mary School. We are proud of the many accomplishments, honors, and awards that St. Margaret Mary School Alumni have earned throughout the years.

Several features of SMM School remain the same, the SMM "golden globe" hangs prominently in the school auditorium, the beautiful, historic building overlooks the school soccer field and neighbors Memorial Park. Many aspects have changed tremendously, including both upper and lower computer labs, iPad carts, robotics table, art studio, and the newly renovated front foyer and administrative office spaces.

The SMM Class of 1975 held its 50-year reunion in September 2025. Nearly 40 alums attended Friday and Saturday night events. We also had a school tour, mass, and a Sunday morning coffee. While about half live in Nebraska, 10 classmates flew in from Texas, Maryland, Washington, Illinois, Colorado, New Jersey, and Florida.
It was as if no time had passed at all, and we left with a commitment to stay connected. Seven of the eight alumni who planned the reunion are members of the SMM parish.
The mass honored 10 deceased classmates, and we collected more than $7,500 for a soon-to-be-announced memorial to the school in their names.
The class of 2000 met at SMM School as part of their 25-year reunion celebration on May 3, 2025, coordinated by Chris Peters. After their school tour, the class attended Mass and gathered for a social at the Brazen Head. Former SMM Principal Peggy Grennan was also in attendance!

The class of 1978 met at SMM School as part of their 40-year reunion celebration in October 2018. This joy within this group of Alums was evident from the beginning of their gathering. After their school tour, the class of 1978 attended Mass and gathered in the Aksarben Village area.
They connected over shared memories and stories of times together through their years as students at St. Margaret Mary School. Some alumni traveled from out-of-state to gather with former SMM classmates for this SMM class reunion. During their visit to the school, not one, but two of the Alums found homeroom desks of their relatives. Coincidentally, their niece and nephew sit only feet apart in the same homeroom. One Alumn in the group has children who have graduated from SMM School.

The class of 1988 met at SMM School as part of their 30-year reunion celebration in September 2018. This group was intentional about catching up and sharing school memories. The current school library served as the school science lab during the 1980s. This group recalled state-of-the-art technology during their days at SMM, which at that time, featured Apple IIE computers with floppy disks. The reunion organizers made an effort to reach out to former teachers and invited them to join in their celebration. This fun-loving and thoughtful group met at and toured St. Margaret Mary School, attended Mass and out to gather in the Midtown area.

The class of 1968 gathered for their 50-year reunion in September 2018. The group met at and toured St. Margaret Mary School. Later they attended evening Mass and shared dinner and memories over dinner in Aksarben Village. Several class members attended and reconnected. Walking through the halls and classrooms generated many school-day anecdotes. Laughter and collective memories punctuated the visit.

The class of 1997 enjoyed their 20-year reunion in the summer of 2017 coordinated by Liz Johnson Worthington. Their weekend included a tour of the school, Mass, and gathering at Aksarben Village. The class enjoyed their visit and shared experiences.
