…At St. Margaret Mary Parish
The Sacrament of Marriage celebrates the human capacity for love and total dedication, and serves as a witness to Christ’s love for the Church. It involves all aspects of life: mental, physical and spiritual.
While beginning with a wedding service in the presence of God and the faith community, a husband and wife continue to confer the Sacrament on one another whenever they offer themselves in the service of the other and the larger community.
Because we are a large parish and receive many requests for wedding ceremonies in our church, St. Margaret Mary Parish follows these norms:
A couple who wish to marry at St. Margaret Mary Church must be registered active members of the parish, a child of a registered member, or an alum of the parish school. Registering in the parish for the sake of requesting a marriage in St. Margaret Mary Church does not fulfill this requirement. Our wedding policy requires that a person must be a registered member of Saint Margaret Mary Parish and take part in the faith life of the parish community by participation at Sunday Mass for a minimum of six months prior to even scheduling a wedding date. Additionally, the Archdiocese of Omaha requires a 6 month marriage preparation period prior to the wedding.
If a couple lives out of town, they must do their marriage preparation at their church of domicile. If the couple lives in Omaha, their marriage prep will be done at SMM during parish business office hours.
All weddings at St. Margaret Mary Church are celebrated and witnessed by one of the parish priests serving St. Margaret Mary Parish. A priest who is a brother or uncle of the bride or groom is welcome to celebrate the Mass and witness the marriage. Priests who are close friends of the bride or groom will be welcome to concelebrate with the St. Margaret Mary priest.
Lastly, St. Margaret Mary is a Catholic church, not a venue, and as such we have rules about what can and cannot be done. Please read our Wedding Planning Guide thoroughly before booking your wedding date.
