Spartan Basketball
3rd through 8th graders are invited to register to play in the 2026-2027 season.

Practices
Practices start around the first week of November.
3rd - 6th grades once a week.
7th and 8th grades twice a week.
Evaluation Week (5th -8th Grades only)
During the last week of October, all players in your grade will practice together before dividing into competitive vs. non-competitive teams (based on the number of sign-ups, talent, etc.). Each grade will be evaluated at the discretion of non-parent/independent evaluators and the basketball director. There will be communication sent out separately for each grade. 3rd and 4th grade teams will be split evenly before practices begin.
Tryouts
Your grade (5th – 8th) may have a tryout for competitive vs. non-competitive teams (based on the number of sign-ups, talent, etc.). Each grade will be evaluated at the discretion of the coaches and the basketball director. The try-out will occur when practices start or right before the start of practices. There will be a communication sent out separately for each grade. 3rd and 4th grade will not have a try-out, and all teams will be split evenly before practices begin.
Games
Games start the first week of December and continue through approx. the first week in March (concluding before SMM Spring Break). They will be at SMM and other school gyms. Games (generally) are on Saturdays (7th and 8th grades may play on Sundays too). There are no games during Christmas Break (after December 21st). The league tournaments start around the dates below:
Tentative tournament start dates:
3rd and 4th grades will begin on Thurs. Feb 11th
5th and 6th grades will begin on Thurs. Feb 18th
7th and 8th grades will begin on Thurs. Feb 25th
Uniforms:
*NEW THIS YEAR * The SMM Basketball program will be purchasing new jerseys for all 7th and 8th grade players. These jerseys will be returned at the end of the season. Parents of 3rd-6th grade players will continue to purchase their player’s jersey during registration (approximately $45)
By purchasing your child's uniform, your child can wear the same uniform for multiple years. Each family has the flexibility to determine whether to buy a new uniform or wear last season's jersey.
