The St. Margaret Mary School Chess Club provides students with an enriching and enjoyable experience. Within this club, students not only develop their chess skills but also build friendships with students outside of their homerooms. The club is divided into two groups: students in Grades 3 & 4 (Primary group), and students in Grades 5-8 (Advanced Group), who meet each Thursday after school from November to March.
During these sessions, students are introduced to the rules of chess and have ample time to engage in friendly games, putting their newfound techniques and strategies to the test. The Chess Club has garnered positive feedback from parents, like Mallory A., who expressed, "My children have enjoyed Chess Club this year - it’s been a great opportunity for them to be a part of a club that isn’t sports-focused. They are excited to advance to upper grades, where even more clubs are available to them!"
